Duggirala — The Heart of Premium Turmeric

Nestled in the fertile Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Duggirala has been cultivating some of India's finest turmeric for generations.

This is where JJ Spices began — and where we still source our premium, high-curcumin turmeric today.

Why Duggirala Produces Premium Turmeric

The secret to Duggirala's exceptional turmeric lies in the unique combination of geography, climate, and generations of farming expertise.

Tropical Climate

Hot, humid conditions with temperatures between 25-35°C during growing season. Ideal for turmeric rhizome development.

Optimal Rainfall

Annual rainfall of 900-1000mm, well-distributed during monsoon. Natural irrigation without waterlogging.

Black Cotton Soil

Deep, fertile black cotton soil (regur) with high water retention and rich mineral content. Perfect for turmeric.

Traditional Cultivation

Generations of farming expertise. Farmers know exactly when to plant, irrigate, and harvest for maximum curcumin.

Our Roots in Duggirala

JJ Spices isn't just a company that sources from Duggirala — we are from Duggirala.

Family Roots in Duggirala

JJ Spices was founded in Duggirala in 1999. Our family has been connected to this region's turmeric trade for generations. We didn't choose Duggirala — we grew up here.

Own Farm Operations

We cultivate turmeric on our own farmland in and around Duggirala. This gives us complete control over seed selection, cultivation practices, and harvest timing.

Contracted Farmer Network

Beyond our farms, we work with a network of trusted local farmers who follow our quality protocols. Long-term relationships ensure consistent quality year after year.

Processing in Origin

Our processing facility is located in the region. Turmeric is processed close to source, minimizing handling and preserving freshness.

Questions About Duggirala Turmeric

What makes Duggirala turmeric special?

Duggirala turmeric is renowned for its naturally high curcumin content (5-7%), deep golden color, and rich aroma. The unique combination of black cotton soil, tropical climate, and generations of farming expertise creates turmeric that consistently exceeds quality benchmarks. It's one of India's premium turmeric-growing regions.

How does Duggirala compare to other Indian turmeric regions?

Duggirala turmeric has higher curcumin than most major producing regions like Erode (3-4%) and Sangli (2-3%). Only Lakadong turmeric from Meghalaya has higher curcumin (7-9%), but Lakadong has very limited supply. Duggirala offers the best combination of high quality and reliable volume.

Is all your turmeric from Duggirala?

The majority of our turmeric comes from Duggirala and surrounding areas in Guntur district. For very large orders, we may source from other premium regions in Andhra Pradesh, but we always maintain our quality standards and provide origin information on request.

Can I visit your farms in Duggirala?

Yes, we welcome serious buyers to visit our farms and processing facility. Seeing the source firsthand helps build confidence in quality. Contact us to arrange a visit — best times are during the growing season (June-September) or harvest (January-March).

Do you have organic turmeric from Duggirala?

Yes, we have NPOP/NOP certified organic turmeric from dedicated organic plots in the Duggirala region. Organic turmeric is available at a premium and typically has a 2-3 week longer lead time for larger orders.

How do you ensure quality consistency from different farms?

All turmeric — whether from our own farms or contracted farmers — goes through the same quality control process. We test every batch for curcumin content, moisture, color value, and contaminants. Only turmeric meeting our standards is accepted and processed.
